An apology from a surprising place

A beautiful cake that looks like the bawling emoji, on a table with plastic forks, crystal sauce, and various other clutter
The cake from my NOLA work goodbye party, aww.

An official south of the border has come out in support of Canadians in the psychological irritation that is Trump's recently revisited taunting. This person is all of the following...

a) a man

b) a Republican

c) a Lieutenant Governor

d) of Louisiana

I'd give each of these attributes a rating somewhere between "less likely" and "totally shocking."

Trump should apologize to Canada for 51st state remarks, Louisiana official says - National | Globalnews.ca
‘It would be really nice if the president could issue an apology about the 51st state,’ Louisiana Lt.-Gov. Billy Nungesser said.

It actually violates my religion to reproduce this man's likeness so forgive me Goddess.

I'm not too familiar with Lt. Gov. Nungesser although technically he was in office when I lived in NOLA and was John Bel Edwards' lieutenant too... huh. But anyway, his comments seem very sincere.

“In all that Canadians have done, [like] fight forest fires in America, we’ve just been great friends for so long. It breaks my heart and embarrasses me what our president said about the 51st state,” he said. “I just wanted to let them know not everyone in America feels that way.”

He is definitely right on this one and I appreciate him saying so. Also that he grounds his comments in what he actually heard from Canadians.

I'm going to go so far as to say this supports the modest thesis of this blog, which is that Americans might want to learn more about what's happening in Canada and appreciate a near-neighbor's perspective. Sure, he is trying to shore up tourism losses but New Orleans is a wonderful place to visit and everyone benefits from a world where access to culture, experience, and revelry is more open.

H/t to Layne for seeing this!
